Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ | Episode 08 | Just Watching

Voyeurism seems to be the name of the game when it comes to Ayuki. So far in Kasimasi her achievements as a character involve pushing Tomari into competing for Hazumu (gently of course), being a good friend to all, and doing a really good job of looking like Thelma from Scooby Doo. I half expect her to say "jinkys" this episode actually, because this episode the cast find themselves taking on a sort of haunted house style challenge (a kimodameshi at their school).

Hazumu plays the role of being damsel in distress this episode, and spends the entire time cowering and being scared firstly of the prospect of going around a "haunted house" and secondly by actually being there! Of course others aren't so scared. Sora has plans to study Hazumu, Yasuna and Tomari as they go around the school at night so he seems to be excited about the whole prospect. Asuta also has fantasies about his best friend clinging to him and him being a big strong man for her, so until Tomari gives him a swift boot to the face he is very excited too.

Before going to the haunted house, we get a brief Tomari and Yasuna scene where we see this "kinda getting along but still rivals" vibe they seem to have developed a bit more. Personally, I think it would be far more entertaining to have an all out catfight when them literally battling for Hazumu's attentions! Maybe armed with swords or something!!!!!, O.K maybe I'm getting a little carried away, but with a world with aliens like Sora and Jan-Puu and a girl who has blurry eyesight looking at guys anything "could" happen. Anyway, throughout this episode you get the feeling of compromising between Tomari and Yasuna, it's like they both want to give the other an even shot at Hazumu. While this is nice and all to me it kinda defies sense why.

Back to the actual events of the episode, this is mostly a comedy episode and is arguably the funniest episode in the series so far. Hazumu is practically wetting herself in fear as she goes around the school, with some fantastic expressions and reactions to things. To begin with she is paired with Tomari and clings to her to the point she is almost strangling her at times, and is just as scared when Yasuna inevitably joins them. Namiko-Sensei dresses in an ultra fanservice look here too in order to lure Sora to her, its an hilariously awful outfit if you ask me and one I burst out laughing as soon as I saw. Unfortunately he is too preoccupied with seeing what reactions will happen when he scares people (he wants Hazumu to jump into the arms of Tomari or Yasuna when scared it seems). Top of the comedy list here goes to Jan Puu unleashing a giant purple blob on the hapless Asuta (who has extremely bad luck all episode). It reminded me of many a cheesy B-movie as it bared down on him, of course there's no real danger this is a comedy episode!

The main point of this episode however seems to be Ayuki. Yasuna confronts her that she may be interested in Hazumu too because she is always watching her. But Ayuki denies this. It seems that Ayuki likes to watch Hazumu as she sees her as a beautiful butterfly spreading its wings. We see this comparison at the start of the episode when a young Ayuki watches a butterfly come from a cocoon, an event which has seemingly emotionally scarred her in some way as comparing other people to butterflies obsessively is not normal behaviour. At the end of the episode as Yasuna, Tomari and Hazumu gaze at the sky, Hazumu's hands on both their shoulders, Ayuki watches from afar and imagines Hazumu (who she evidently cares about) as a beautiful butterfly. Awww.

Very little overall development is happening to the romance in Kasimasi (true to the manga in this sense). Other than Tomari and Yasuna now both knowing they are openly competing for her little has changed other than this sort of truce thing between them. Hazumu herself is totally unsure who she wants as she cares for them both, but im still curious as to what will finally happen. This episode was fun in terms of comedy and really sweet at times in terms of the light fluffy romantic tones, but nothing amazing. I want plot jumps!

Next Episode :- Festivals and Fireworks and things. Expect lots of drivel about Yasuna and Tomari being like different candyfloss flavours. Maybe.
