Shiroi Heya No Futari
Friday, December 23, 2005

Something fairly ambiguous for a late night blog update. Shiroi Heya No Futari, is a manga written in the 1970's about two girls at a boarding school who fall for one another, and the tragic results of their forbidden love.

Resine De Poisson is a shy, sheltered girl who's mother has died, and she herself ends up going to boarding school. Resine ends up sharing a room with a girl called Simone who is the mirror opposite of her. Simone is forward, rude and rebellious doing pretty much whatever she wants at school, avoiding lessons and the like, she even sneaks out late at night to go to an acting club, she is rumored to be a bit of a player when it comes to guys too.

To begin with Simone is fairly mean to Resine, teasing her for her fragile nature and the like. However a bond begins to gradually build between them starting with Simone ambiguously directing a love poem to Resine in class under the guise of reading from a book. Things between them start to get closer as they start to find comfort for their problems in each others arms and perform as Romeo and Juliet in the school play. However Resine has problems dealing the fact she might be *shock* a lesbian!, while Simone herself seems to accept it easily. Resine drifts from Simone in total denial leaving her heartbroken, as she pays attention to a guy instead, kissing herself she loves him and Simone is merely a good freind. This leads to a tragic and heartbreaking conclusion for both girls that I won't spoil...

Shiroi Heya No Futari, is a sad and dramatic love story, it's short, romantic and very moving particularly by the end (*sobs*, I cried). The rather unusual (for present day), 1970's artwork is really beautiful giving the two leads rather ethereal ghostlike appearances and its truly a gem of the past when it comes to manga. I enjoyed every moment of this story from beginning to end and if you like your yuri manga dramatic and free from full blown adult content, then you will too.

10/10
